Emma, 18, from Grimsby, got £2,500 from vcashpoint to set up Eye Need Summer Fun, a summer school for children with physically disabled and sensory-impaired children.
“vcashpoint provides funding for young people with good ideas. All it asks is that it's a volunteering project and that you're passionate about it.
“I was already working with older people with disabilities, and realised there was nothing available for younger people with disabilities in my area. So I decided to put together a summer school for them.
“Applying to vcashpoint for the funding and setting up the project was really straightforward. It's been manic! We've had so many people who want to get involved. With the young children, the most rewarding thing is seeing the look on their faces when they're doing something fun they've never done before.
“The feedback from families has been very positive. They're saying what a big help the scheme is and they're spreading the word. People come up to me and say: ‘I know someone who is autistic who would love to join up.’ Everyone is pleased the young people have something fun to do.
“I began volunteering because I wanted to do something to help out. I'm not bothered about getting paid. I'd rather put my time in and feel good about it. It doesn't matter how old or young you are, volunteering's a good opportunity for everyone.
“I would say to young people who enjoy volunteering and who have an idea to improve their community that they should go to vcashpoint.”
